It will cover the basic qualifications and the fundamental roles of a pastor such as leading, equipping and caring. It will attempt to combine theory and practice. Attention is given to the minister's spiritual leadership as well as the practical aspects of the pastoral ministry such as the preparation for preaching and worship, administration, baptism, communion, home-visitation, funeral, wedding.
這一門課引導學生明瞭華人教會牧養的職事，內容包括討論牧者的基本條件與角色：領導、裝備、關懷。課程的安排結合理論與實踐並重，除了研討教牧的屬靈領導，也討論教會不同事工和實際應用：預備講章、主日崇拜準備，行政方案，浸禮，聖餐，家訪，探病，婚禮，喪禮等。

It does not intend to produce professional 'pastoral counselors', but to prepare students to be more effective in counseling as a pastor or lay leader. Essential elements of pastoral counseling are covered. Different practical areas that a pastor would encounter in the ministry within the Chinese church setting are expected.

This course deepens the student’s preaching skills by exploring a variety of sermon types, integrating theology, exegesis, and pastoral application. Emphasis is placed on preaching in diverse contexts, doctrinal preaching, narrative preaching, and addressing contemporary issues from the pulpit.
Through explanation, study, practicum, and evaluation, this course helps students further develop the basic principles and practical theories of exegetical preaching. Starting from in-depth Bible study, students will write well-crafted sermons, deliver them effectively, and receive feedback. The unique features of this course include artistic exegetical preaching and mission preaching from multiple perspectives (such as holistic life renewal and justice and reconciliation types).

The Leader as Scholar: Research Methodology

Description: Sound research, responsible planning, conscientious implementation, and discerning assessment are valued capacities in a leader and critical components of the DMin program. In this course, methods and methodology correlated to the principles and practices of ministry research are addressed. Discussions will be focused on the relationships among theological framework, socio-anthropological inquiry, and ministry practice. Development of a research design, bibliography, and database for high-level ministry research will be emphasized. Particular attention is given to the processes of gathering, recording, coding, and analyzing data in order to report rich descriptive findings and conclusions supported by the data.

Reception is how we take in ideas around us whereas conception is how we construct framework of understanding so that we may have a macroscopic as well as microscopic view of things. Although we aim at learning how to think theologically, we would go beyond just the Bible and theology proper into the lifeworld.

宗旨：
本課程旨在「教牧職事亦是神學職事──實用性不能沒有神學性」的基礎上，進行對當代牧養職事、教牧角色、牧者整全生命的反省，並包括對牧職與多元社區文化的互動關係、對所服侍的群體的認識，特別是牧者自我形象和牧養風格的探討。本科藉閱讀、個案研究、實地堪察體驗，試圖調和教牧理論、宣教理論、屬靈操練，以及其實踐的工夫，以面對今天傳道職事的挑戰。
